The Safer group counts 27 Land Management and Rural Establishment Agencies (Sociétés d’Aménagement Foncier et d’Etablissement Rural: SAFER) in France and in the overseas departments.

Non profit-making private companies under government supervision, they contribute, through land transactions, to balanced, sustainable, rural land development.

Their public service missions are structured around three main lines :

- contributing to the maintenance and development of dynamic and sustainable agriculture.
- assisting the regional bodies in their policy for rural development,
- taking part in protection of the environment and of landscapes.

The Safer:
- informs the public of the sales of rural properties,
- advises and informs the purchasers and direct them to the right people,
- watches the land market of its region and has a regulatory role in this market,
- facilitates the investors' financial investments,
- evaluates agricultural properties,
- a mediator between sellers and purchasers, it improves farm structures, etc.

The Safer intervenes in transactions of a wide range, involving farms and rural properties :

- transfer of entire mixed production farms including animal breeding (land to sell or rent, farm buildings, livestock, equipment), with lease transfer, transparency, support for respecting agricultural regulations, in accordance with the departmental schemes of the agricultural structures and in cooperation with the local people in charge, …,

- search of lessees and sponsors for properties suitable for land investment and to rent,

- transfer of wine properties, farms specialised in flower, vegetable or fruit growing, farms with  hunting and fishing areas.

The Safer also offers agrotourism properties, as well as rural estates.
